How to Tune Your Guitar
Tuning your guitar by ear takes practice, but with Pro Guitar Tuner you can get perfect pitch in seconds. Here is how to tune your guitar using this free online tuner:
Allow microphone access when your browser asks. The tuner needs to hear your strings to detect their pitch. No audio is recorded or stored.
Pluck your low E string (the thickest string). The tuner automatically detects which note you are playing and shows it on the display.
Watch the needle on the meter. When it points to the center (0), the string is in tune. If the needle is left of center, the note is flat — tighten the tuning peg. If it is right of center, the note is sharp — loosen the peg.
Tune each string one at a time. Work from the thickest to the thinnest: E, A, D, G, B, E. You can also click the string buttons on the fretboard panel to hear reference tones.
Fine-tune by making small adjustments. Turn the tuning peg slowly and pluck again. Repeat until the needle rests at center and the display confirms you are in tune.
Check your tuning by strumming all strings together. If any string sounds off, go back and fine-tune it. New strings may need to be tuned several times before they hold pitch.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does an online guitar tuner work?
Pro Guitar Tuner uses your device's microphone to listen to each string as you pluck it. Advanced pitch detection algorithms analyze the sound wave in real time and show you whether the note is sharp, flat, or perfectly in tune on the analog meter display.
Is Pro Guitar Tuner really free?
Yes, completely free with no account required. Open the page, allow microphone access, and start tuning. The web tuner has no trial period, no hidden paywalls, and no feature limits.
What instruments can I tune with this?
While it is optimized for guitar, Pro Guitar Tuner supports over 15 string instruments including bass, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, violin, viola, cello, and more. Each instrument comes with its own set of standard and alternative tunings.
Why does the tuner need microphone access?
The tuner listens to the sound of your strings through the microphone to detect the pitch. No audio is recorded or sent anywhere — all processing happens locally in your browser.
How accurate is the web tuner compared to the app?
The web tuner uses the same pitch detection engine as the mobile app. Accuracy depends on your microphone quality and background noise. For best results, tune in a quiet environment and hold your device close to the guitar.
Can I use a different tuning besides standard?
Absolutely. Pro Guitar Tuner offers over 200 tunings including Drop D, Open G, DADGAD, and many more. Click on the tuning name next to the fretboard to browse all available tunings for your instrument.
Does it work on mobile phones?
The web tuner is designed for desktop browsers. For the best mobile experience, download the free Pro Guitar Tuner app for iOS or Android — it works offline and is optimized for touchscreens.
